[JOB INTERVIEW PREP] Behavioral interview questi [JOB INTERVIEW PREP]

Behavioral interview questions are used by recruiters and hiring manager to test job competencies.

Questions asked by an interviewer are based on the competencies required to perform the job successfully...

If an employer is looking for to test PROBLEM SOLVING/ANALYSIS, here are some examples of behaviour-based interview questions you might be asked in a job interview:

👉Can you tell me about a time where you thought you had successfully handled a problem only to figure out that you had really only put a Band-Aid on a much larger problem. What was the situation and what did you do?

👉Describe a complicated problem that you had to work through while on the job. What steps did you take to gain a better understanding of the problem? How did you solve it? Looking back is there anything you would have done differently?

👉Tell me about a problem that you uncovered that you felt did not fall within your job responsibility. What did you do?

✨Don’t forget to answer behavior-based job interview questions using the STAR technique identifying SPECIFIC EXAMPLES.

1. Identify and explain the SITUATION
2. Explain what TASKS needed to be done and your responsibility
3. Explain the specific ACTIONS you took and why you chose those steps
4. Describe the RESULTS of your actions – elaborate on your learnings or if you would have handled the situation differently looking back

Don’t forget to save this post for later.

I have a tonne of new faces on here!! Welcome, I am so excited to help you with your job search!

I have taken a bit of time off Instagram to spend time adventuring with my kiddos this summer but wanted to touch base and let you know that I am back and will start pumping out more content for you 👩‍💻

I’m Natalie 😁

An HR Professional obsessed with helping career-minded individuals explore, discover, and find jobs they love!

Let’s be honest…
👉Discovering what you want to do with your life and career can cause a whole lotta stress
👉Job searching is never fun, although the thought of new beginnings can be exciting
👉Writing your resume often leads to writer’s block
👉Interviewing makes you feel like people are just trying to decide if they like you enough to work with you (no one likes to feel rejected)
👉We all need to find a way to make a living doing “something” – whether you do what you love or love what you do (or sometimes even hate it)

I get it! I have been there!

Keeping it real…
👉In my 20s I changed career paths multiple times (until I discovered my passion for working in Human Resources) – Child and Youth Worker, Teacher, Sales…. then HR! In my 30s, I added Blogger
👉I’m addicted to coffee, red wine, chocolate, crafting, and Netflix
👉Balancing work and life is hard – as a mom of 3, it’s an ongoing battle of mom-guilt and career

But the good news is, you don’t have to go it alone!

I am here to support you with content related to helping you achieve your career goals!

The DO’s and DON’TS of Following Up After a Jo The DO’s and DON’TS of Following Up After a Job Interview

Trying to decide what “the best practice” is for a job candidate after an interview?

Use these quick tips to help you determine what you should do!

DO’S:

👉Ask about next steps – in your job interview ask about the next steps in the recruitment/ candidate selection process. This will help you understand where they are at and what their plans are

👉Send a thank you email after your job interview – this doesn’t have to be a novel, just a short and sweet email thanking the interviewer for their time and a statement reiterating your excitement about the opportunity.

👉Follow-up within the appropriate time frame – assuming you have asked them about next steps within the candidate selection process, use their answer to guide any follow-up that you decide to do. If for example they state that they are completing first rounds of interviews and will be contacting successful candidates the following week to book second stage interviews, then wait until the following week. If you haven’t heard from them, then it would be “okay” to follow up. Any sooner it may seem that you didn’t listen or understand their timeline/ process.

DON’TS:

🚫Immediately ask for feedback

🚫Bug the recruitment team / hiring manager – it’s one thing to follow-up, it’s a whole other thing to become a nuisance. Be careful not to cross the line!

ARE YOU A RAPID RESUME FIRER? Recruiters and HR ARE YOU A RAPID RESUME FIRER?

Recruiters and HR Professionals all have their own terms that they use to spot these candidates…

The candidates that literally apply for every job that they think they might be qualified for or somewhat interested in…

My colleagues and I say “rapid resume firer” because we literally think the applicant is firing out resumes left, right, and centre -without really looking at the job posting to identify if they are qualified.

If they are qualified they usually haven’t taken the time to clearly identify how their qualifications match what’s listed in the job description.

Rather than hitting apply, apply, apply… to every job you see, try this!

1. Apply for jobs using your computer. When you use your phone and use the “quick apply” methods with an applicant profile you aren’t taking the time to target your resume and cover letter.

2. Always always always target your resume to the jobs you are applying for!

3. Include a well written cover letter (even if not all recruiters read them).

4. If possible, don’t use quick apply methods on job sites. If the job posting website doesn’t link you directly to the company’s site to apply (to a company’s ATS), then go directly to the company’s career page (if available) and apply there.

Full disclosure 🤦‍♀️ when I was fresh out of school looking for work I was applying for 20+ jobs a day using quick apply methods.

Quality job applications will be more beneficial in your search than a high quantity of crappy ones!
